Schalk-Willem Joubert left Wellington Sixty-one years ago and went to the fertile Tradouw Valley and startet to farm wine grapes and fruit there.

Jacobus Joubert realised the potential for premium grape cultivars like Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc in 1982. End of the 1990's a dream became true when the wine and fermentation cellar was built on the farm. In 1999, the wine production started with the R62 Blend of Merlot/Cabernet (60:40). 14 months later after an aging period in Burgundy oak barrels the wine was released. Currently the production is less than 3000 casec annually.

The award-winning winemaker, Meyer Joubert, started to study viticulture at Elsenburg near Stellenbosch and later he went for two seasons to the famous Napa Wine Valley in California. Thereafter he returned to South Africa and started to make his own wines.

Meyer was born on a farm and into a farming family and shows extreme respect for nature. His credo is minimal intervention in the winemaking process in a simple and functional wine cellar with enough space and appropriate humidity and temperature.

Born in the Tradouw Valley, he moved 1995 to the farm and lives there with his wife and their four children. He was the first to recognize the popularity of the R62 route and trademarked 'R62' consequently.
