“Good wine is grown, not made”

Springfield wine estate is a family owned and family operated wine estate located in the mountainous majesty of Robertson South Africa. The Bruwer family owners trace their lineage back to the French Huguenot settlers of 1688 being direct descendants of the Brueres who fled to South Africa from the Loire, bringing with them an abundance of vine cuttings.

An avenue of trees leads visitors to the winery located next to a dam boasting its own sailing boat and picturesque views of the MGregor and Langeberg mountain ranges. Springbok, originating from a herd in Nambia, often roam freely amongst the vineyards whilst endulging in the ripe fruit of the vines.

Soils at Springfield are complex and varied ranging from rock, clay and sand all of which are rich in lime content. Vines planted in close proximity of the Breede River are shielded from floods through the incorporation of dykes. The southeaster wind of the Atlantic ocean creates variable tempartures throughout the day in the growing season extremes of which range from 30 degrees celcius by day to 15 degrees celcius at night.

Vine plantings located in lower lying altidudes on the estate, such as Sauvignon Blanc, are susceptible to frost and with a average yearly rainfall of approximately 200mm, irrigation is vital in order to prevent undue stress of the vines. These condtions allow for natural yeasts to thrive in the vineyards whilst providing favourable, organic compounds.

Siblings Jeanette and Abrie Bruwer, currently in charge of operations at Springfield, are as adventurous, dynamic and daring as their predecessors in producing wines of passion. Abrie tends the vineyards with the aid of his loyal and longstanding team whilst Jeanette heads the marketing division devoting her hours to promotions domestically and abroad. Jeanette does not confine herself to markteting activities alone and is actively involved in viticultural processes of soil preparation for new vine plantings and fork-lift driving in the cellar. Abrie and Jeanette make a formidablle team enjoying each individual aspect of the business.

The true splendour of Springfield is present in the artisinal wines found in each bottle produced at the estate. Sterling examples of tradtional winemaking methods are found, with wines embodying exceptional quality and unique character as per Springfield's credo of "from the grape to the bottle, with care and passion".
