Boschendal wines from the Cape Winelands

Boschendal is one of South Africa's most historic wineries. The estate lies between Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, nestled between the Simonsberg and Drakenstein mountains. Its history dates back to 1685, when the land was granted to the French Huguenot Jean le Long.

Over several generations, Boschendal developed into an important agricultural estate. The de Villiers family farmed the property for more than a century and had the historic Cape Dutch manor house built. The building is now part of South Africa's national heritage. Following extensive restoration, the winery was repositioned in 1976.

The vineyards are located in carefully selected sites across the Cape Winelands. Depending on the grape variety, fruit also comes from cooler growing areas such as Elgin or suitable sites around Stellenbosch. Different soils, elevations and climatic influences allow Boschendal to produce a versatile range, each wine with its own distinctive character.

The range includes fresh white wines such as Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay as well as expressive reds made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Pinot Noir and other varieties. Cap Classiques produced using traditional bottle fermentation also play an important role. These include Boschendal Brut, Brut Rosé and selected prestige cuvées.

The well-known 1685 range combines typical grape varieties with an approachable, balanced style. Boschendal also produces more ambitious site-specific wines and blends such as Nicolas, Black Angus, Elgin Chardonnay and Elgin Pinot Noir. The range therefore extends from versatile everyday wines to more complex wines for special occasions and longer cellaring.

Alongside viticulture, Boschendal follows a comprehensive regenerative agriculture concept. Large parts of the roughly 1,800-hectare estate are dedicated to protecting natural habitats. Boschendal is also one of the WWF Conservation Champions and combines winegrowing, fruit farming, livestock and the conservation of regional plant life.

Boschendal stands for South African wines that combine tradition, modern cellar technology and the diversity of the Cape Winelands. Discover selected Boschendal wines at Vin Africa and experience one of South Africa's best-known historic wineries.
