Compagniesdrift
is an exceptional wine project from Stellenbosch that combines wine quality, economic independence and community involvement. The wine brand was founded in 2015 by farm workers who had been associated for many years with renowned wineries such as Meerlust, Vriesenhof and Ken Forrester.
The creation of Compagniesdrift was strongly supported by the Myburgh Family Trust, which also owns the historic Meerlust estate. Since July 2019, the company has been owned by the Meerlust Workers' Trust. A total of 72 beneficiaries and their families profit from the project, which is intended to promote long-term employment, further training and entrepreneurial responsibility.
The wines are made by Altus Treurnicht, who also serves as Cellar Master at Meerlust. The focus is on clear fruit, varietal aromas and an approachable style that makes the wines versatile partners for food.
The range includes Chardonnay, Rosé and a red blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The Chardonnay shows fresh aromas of pear, apricot and citrus, while the red blend combines dark fruit, plum and subtle spice. The range is complemented by the sweet Albertus, made from Muscat grapes and showing aromas of rose water, apricot, citrus and marmalade.
