De Grendel wines from Durbanville

The historic De Grendel winery is situated on the slopes of the Tygerberg on the outskirts of Cape Town. From the elevated vineyards, the view stretches across Table Bay to Table Mountain. The proximity to the Atlantic and cooling sea breezes create favourable conditions for the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly.

The farm's history dates back to 1720. De Grendel has been owned by the Graaff family since 1891, and the family developed the estate over several generations into a diverse agricultural enterprise. Modern viticulture began in the late 1990s. Since then, De Grendel has combined the estate's long history with contemporary viticulture and precise cellar work.

Cellarmaster Charles Hopkins has been involved in building the winery from its beginnings. Together with his team, he produces a broad selection of South African wines. These include fresh Sauvignon Blanc, balanced Merlot, spicy Shiraz and sophisticated blends such as Rubaiyat. The range is complemented by selected wines from special sites in Elim and the high-altitude Witzenberg Mountains.

De Grendel stands for clear, harmonious and versatile wines that express the character of their grape varieties and origins. The combination of a cool coastal climate, varied vineyard sites and many years of experience has made the estate one of the well-known producers of the Durbanville region.
