Le Riche

is a family-run winery in Stellenbosch with a particular dedication to Cabernet Sauvignon. The estate is located in the Helderberg, a comparatively cool part of the region shaped by its proximity to the sea and by varied soils and elevations.

Le Riche Wines was founded in 1996 by Etienne le Riche. He had previously spent around 20 years as winemaker at Rustenberg and had already established a reputation as a Cabernet Sauvignon specialist. The first Le Riche wine made from its own grapes came from the 1997 vintage and quickly received considerable acclaim.

Today the winery is run by the second generation, Christo le Riche. As director and Cellar Master, he continues the clear focus on Cabernet Sauvignon from Stellenbosch. His aim is to understand the region's different vineyard sites more precisely and make their individual character visible in the wines.

Since its foundation, Le Riche has worked with selected grape growers from different parts of Stellenbosch. The individual sites are vinified separately and only later brought together in balanced wines. This produces Cabernet Sauvignons that combine dark fruit, fine spice, clear structure and good ageing potential.

The core of the range consists of Le Riche Cabernet Sauvignon and the Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, made only from particularly suitable lots. The range is complemented by Richesse, a more approachable blend in which Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure while Cinsault contributes fragrant fruit and a supple character.

Le Riche stands for concentrated yet balanced red wines whose style is closely linked to their Stellenbosch origin. Discover selected Le Riche wines at Vin Africa and get to know one of South Africa's leading addresses for Cabernet Sauvignon.
