Deep purple-black in the glass with a garnet rim, this wine unfolds an opulent bouquet of ripe black plum, juicy peach, cherry liqueur and sweet apricot, complemented by hints of blackberry bush, piquant spice and fine notes of fynbos. On the palate it impresses with ripe flavours of apricot, peach, plum and dark berries, harmoniously accompanied by allspice, subtle liquorice and a seductively rich cocoa finish. The skilful balance of intense fruit, supple tannins and lively spice gives this Cape liqueur wine its special elegance and makes it a versatile, exceptionally enjoyable style.
 
Vinification:
Selected old vines of Tinta Barocca and Touriga Nacional, around 30 years of age, form the foundation of this wine. They were deliberately chosen for the characteristic cocoa note that gives wines from these special sites their unmistakable signature. The grapes are hand-picked at optimum ripeness, fermented in small lagares and then fortified. This is followed by 12 months of maturation in large, well-used oak barrels, which gives the wine depth and structure. The result is an expressive, full-bodied Cape Vintage of remarkable elegance and distinctive intensity.
