Eikehof
is a family-run boutique winery in the Franschhoek Valley. The estate is located on the R45 near La Motte and is surrounded by old oak trees and the mountain scenery of the Drakenstein Mountains. In this peaceful setting, wines are produced in small quantities and are closely linked to the history of the Malherbe family.
The farm has been owned by the Malherbe family since 1903. After wine production on the property ended in 1948, François Malherbe revived the family's own winemaking in 1992. Today Eikehof continues as a family-run estate with deliberately limited production.
A special feature of the estate is a historic Sémillon vineyard planted in 1902, regarded as South Africa's oldest surviving Sémillon vineyard. Its old bush vines produce a strictly limited Sémillon that is fermented and matured in French oak.
Eikehof's range also includes Sauvignon Blanc, an unoaked Chardonnay and a powerful Shiraz. The portfolio is complemented by a Cape Ruby made from Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, continuing South Africa's tradition of fortified wines.
