Haute Cabrière

Haute Cabrière is located on the Franschhoek Pass above the wine town of the same name. The family-run winery focuses mainly on the Burgundian varieties Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, producing them as single-varietal wines, unusual blends and traditionally bottle-fermented Cap Classiques.

The estate's historic roots reach back to 1694, when the farm was granted to the French Huguenot Pierre Jourdan, after whom the estate's sparkling-wine range was later named. The modern history of Haute Cabrière began in 1982, when Achim and Hildegard von Arnim laid the foundations for the winery.

Achim von Arnim recognised early on the potential of the higher vineyards for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. A Chardonnay vineyard was planted as early as 1983 and still produces grapes today. Intensive work with these two varieties led to a clearly recognisable style combining freshness, fine fruit and balanced structure.

Under the Pierre Jourdan name, Haute Cabrière produces several Cap Classiques using traditional bottle fermentation. Pierre Jourdan Brut, first released in 1986, was among the early South African sparkling wines made from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and helped shape the winery's subsequent development.

Another speciality is the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir blend. It was first produced as a still wine in 1994 and combines Chardonnay's freshness with the fruit and body of Pinot Noir. The range also includes varietal Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs as well as limited wines from individual vineyards.

Haute Cabrière stands for a distinctive interpretation of classic French grape varieties in the Franschhoek Valley. Discover selected wines and Cap Classiques from Haute Cabrière at Vin Africa, combining South African origin with the von Arnim family's many years of experience.
