Anthonij Rupert Wines from Franschhoek

Anthonij Rupert Wines is based at the historic L'Ormarins estate in the Franschhoek Valley. The property lies on the slopes of the Groot Drakenstein Mountains and combines historic farm buildings with modern wineries and vineyards in an impressive setting.

The winery's present-day direction is closely linked to the Rupert family. After the death of Anthonij Rupert in 2001, his brother Johann Rupert took over the estate and had a modern winery built. Since then, the portfolio has been expanded step by step, with the origin of the grapes and the characteristics of the individual vineyard sites at the centre of the approach.

For the different wine ranges, grapes are sourced from selected growing areas across the Western Cape. The varying climates and soils make possible a broad spectrum ranging from fresh white wines and rosés to Cap Classique and full-bodied, age-worthy red wines.

The portfolio comprises six distinct brands. The Anthonij Rupert range, with classic red wines and the Bordeaux blend Optima, sits at the top of the portfolio. Cape of Good Hope focuses on wines from distinctive sites, while L'Ormarins stands for traditionally made Cap Classiques. The range is complemented by the Italian-inspired wines of Terra del Capo, the rosé Jean Roi and the approachable varietal wines of the Protea range.

The wines combine ripe fruit with clear structure and cellar work tailored to the respective grape variety. Modern technology is combined with traditional methods. The cellar used for the Anthonij Rupert range operates largely by gravity, allowing grapes and wine to be handled particularly gently.

Protecting the natural environment is also part of the winery's philosophy. More than 300 hectares of the estate are preserved as natural land. They contain various forms of the fynbos vegetation typical of the Cape and provide habitat for numerous indigenous animal species. The winery has been recognised as a WWF Conservation Champion since 2020.
