Springfield

is a well-known wine estate in the heart of the Robertson wine region. The region is part of the Cape Winelands and is located in the Western Cape province, around two hours' drive from Cape Town.

The Springfield Estate wine estate has a rich history dating back to the 17th century. It has been run by the Bruwer family, descended from French Huguenots, for several generations. These Huguenots brought their knowledge of winegrowing and winemaking to South Africa in the 17th century. Today, the siblings Jeanette and Abrie Bruwer run the winery and Springfield is known for its wines, which are mainly made from classic grape varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. The winemakers in Springfield attach great importance to traditional cultivation methods and minimal intervention in the winemaking process. Many of the wines are bottled ‘unfiltered’ and ‘unfined’, which means that they are not filtered or clarified in order to preserve the natural flavours and textures.

Robertson, where the winery is located, is a region known for its chalky soils and Mediterranean climate. The hot summers and cool nights contribute to the development of intense flavours in the grapes, giving Springfield's wines a special depth and complexity.

The Springfield Winery is also a popular destination for wine tourists. Visitors can take part in wine tastings and explore the picturesque landscape surrounded by vineyards and mountains. The region around Robertson is generally known for its hospitality and relaxed atmosphere, which also extends to wine tourists.
